About First People Housing CIC

First People Housing CIC, based in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, is a Community Interest Company committed to providing a safe haven for individuals sleeping rough, at risk of street homelessness, or working towards recovery from substance misuse. Additionally, they extend their support to individuals with a history of offending behavior, offering a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation and reintegration.

Current Accommodations and Growth Plans

As of February 2024, First People Housing CIC proudly operates 43 beds for male clients and is actively seeking to expand its reach in Hertfordshire, Hertsmere, and North London. Looking ahead, the organisation has ambitious plans to add a further 50 beds over the next 18 months, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to addressing the pressing issue of homelessness in the region.

Client Support and Duration of Stay

First People Housing CIC adopts a holistic approach to client support, offering therapy, one-to-one key working, and referrals to specialised agencies. Clients are also provided with opportunities to pursue education, training, and employment, empowering them to rebuild their lives. Recognising that each individual’s journey is unique, the organisation allows clients to stay for up to two years, ensuring they receive the necessary support to transition into more stable housing.

Life Skills and Rules

A cornerstone of First People Housing CIC’s approach is the emphasis on equipping clients with essential life skills. From maintaining a tenancy and budgeting to everyday tasks like cooking, clients are given the tools they need to navigate independent living successfully.

To ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, First People Housing CIC has established a set of rules. These include a strict prohibition on drugs and alcohol within the property, as well as limitations on visitors. Additionally, clients willingly agree to random room and drug tests upon moving in, fostering an environment of accountability and support.

Looking Forward

The collaboration between The Christopher James Hall Foundation and First People Housing CIC holds great promise in providing a platform for individuals facing diversity, disability, and poverty to express themselves through the medium of photography. As we look forward to joining forces, we anticipate creating meaningful opportunities for self-expression, empowerment, and transformation.

This collaboration exemplifies the power of partnerships in addressing societal challenges. Through our collective efforts, we aim to contribute to a brighter future for those in need, embodying the spirit of inclusivity and compassion that defines both organisations.
